James Carville calls for Democratic Party split after far‑left New York primary wins

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville, speaking on his podcast with co‑host Al Hunt, urged the Democratic Party to consider a formal schism after three far‑left candidates won New York primary elections. Among the winners was Democratic socialist Darializa Avila Chevalier, a candidate backed by New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani.

Carville criticized the candidates for anti‑Israel positions, saying, “Lady, I ain’t in the same party as you… It’s time for Democrats to talk ‘the S‑word’: schism.” He warned that if Democrats fail to secure a decisive victory in November, the new legislators could “sabotage Hakeem Jeffries every step of the way.” Hunt added that the winners are “a great gift to Donald Trump.”

Both strategists argued that Republicans are overplaying the three candidates as representative of the party’s future, but they nonetheless called for a firewall to keep them out of mainstream Democratic ranks.
