James Carville warns 2028 Democratic primary will test party’s socialist faction

Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville told Fox News Digital that the 2028 presidential primary, not the 2026 contests, will decide the future direction of the Democratic Party. He said the rise of far‑left candidates winning state primaries has alarmed moderate Democrats and warned that the party’s socialist wing will face its real test in 2028.

Carville emphasized that the outcome must be decided by primary voters, not by op‑eds or panel discussions, and he expressed personal opposition to aligning with streamer Hasan Piker, whom he described as controversial. He noted that a crowded field – including Alexandria Ocasio‑Cortez, Gavin Newsom, Pete Buttigieg, Kamala Harris and Rahm Emanuel – will vie for the nomination, reflecting both the governing and the DSA‑aligned factions of the party.

He concluded that the Democratic base will ultimately settle the party’s direction at the presidential level.
