James Cook Leads Buffalo Bills to Rushing Title but Falls Short in Playoffs

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook signed a four‑year, $48 million contract extension on August 13 2025, guaranteeing $30 million. In the 2025 season he recorded a career‑high 1,621 rushing yards on 309 carries with 12 rushing touchdowns, earning the NFL rushing title – the first for a Bills player since O.J. Simpson in 1976. Cook added 33 receptions for 291 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

In the postseason he carried the ball 39 times across two playoff games, including 24 rushes for 117 yards in the AFC divisional round. The Bills lost 33‑30 in overtime to the Denver Broncos on January 17 2026 at Empower Field at Mile High. After the defeat Cook reflected, “It means a lot. (It’s) just something nobody in my family has done… as a running back—that’s everybody’s goal—just to win the rushing title.”
