James Gray honored at Morelia International Film Festival

American filmmaker James Gray was awarded the Prize for Artistic Excellence during the 24th edition of the Morelia International Film Festival (FICM). In recognition of his career, a theater seat bearing his name will be unveiled at Cinépolis Centro.

As part of the festival, Gray presented his ninth feature film, ‘Paper Tiger’. The crime drama, which stars Adam Driver, Scarlett Johansson, and Miles Teller, follows two brothers who become inadvertently involved with the Russian mafia in 1980s New York. The film, which previously had its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, is scheduled for a Mexican theatrical release in January 2027.

Gray reflected on the recognition, noting the emotional impact of seeing his long-standing work acknowledged by an audience after decades in the industry.
