Paper Tiger opens New York Film Festival with star-studded premiere

The 64th New York Film Festival opened with the premiere of James Gray’s crime drama ‘Paper Tiger’. The film stars Adam Driver, Miles Teller, and Scarlett Johansson, following two brothers in 1986 New York whose business scheme involving the Gowanus Canal leads them into conflict with the Russian mafia.

During the red carpet event at Alice Tully Hall, Johansson appeared in a charcoal-gray Prada minidress and Sophie Bille Brahe diamond jewelry, sporting a new blonde bob. Johansson, who missed the film’s Cannes premiere due to filming ‘The Exorcist: Martyrs’, noted she was feeling jet-lagged during the post-screening Q&A.

Director James Gray described the production as having a ‘nauseatingly lovely’ atmosphere and noted that while the film draws from personal themes, it is not a documentary. The film is expected to be a contender in the upcoming awards season.
