Paper Tiger: James Gray’s crime drama stars Adam Driver and Miles Teller

James Gray’s new crime drama, ‘Paper Tiger’, has received critical attention for its subversion of modern crime cinema tropes. The film functions as an old-fashioned parable, focusing on an all-American family that becomes entangled in a dangerous criminal underworld.

Starring Adam Driver as Gary Pearl and Miles Teller as Irwin Pearl, the story explores how the brothers and their subsequent generations are shattered by their involvement with crime. Scarlett Johansson portrays Hester, the wife of Irwin Pearl. The film is described as an autobiographical crime drama that examines the destruction of the ‘American dream’ through a lens of retro morality and suburban nightmare.
