James Gunn debunks Matthew Lillard as The Flash rumor

James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has officially debunked rumors suggesting that actor Matthew Lillard will portray The Flash in the upcoming DC Universe. The speculation arose following reports regarding Lillard’s character in the film ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ which described a character with a biracial family and two children—details fans interpreted as a reference to Barry Allen and the Tornado Twins from comic book lore.

Gunn addressed the fan theory directly on social media, responding to an inquiry with a simple “No.” While the rumor regarding Lillard’s specific role remains unconfirmed, the director’s response clarifies that the actor is not playing the superhero.

‘Man of Tomorrow’ is scheduled for theatrical release on July 9, 2027. The film features a cast including David Corenswet, Nicholas Hoult, and Lars Eidinger, and is expected to explore the relationship between Clark Kent and Lex Luthor as they face the character Brainiac.
