James Gunn rules out Superman director’s cut

James Gunn, CEO of DC Studios, has addressed fan speculation regarding a potential director’s cut for the 2025 Superman film. Responding to a query on Threads, Gunn stated, “Yes! The one that was in theaters!”, effectively indicating that no alternative version of the movie will be released.

The 2025 Superman film, starring David Corenswet, was a commercial success, earning $618.7 million at the global box office. The story follows Clark Kent as he navigates his Kryptonian heritage and faces Lex Luthor.

Gunn is currently working on the upcoming DC Universe film, Man of Tomorrow, which is scheduled for release on July 9, 2027. The project is expected to feature an alliance between Superman and Lex Luthor to combat the threat of the alien cyborg Brainiac. The film will see the return of Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult, alongside new cast members including Milly Alcock as Supergirl and Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen.
