James Gunn Takes Control of Supergirl Amid Post‑Production Dispute

James Gunn, co‑CEO of DC Studios, intervened in the post‑production of the superhero film Supergirl after creative disagreements with director Craig Gillespie. DC Studios created its own cut of the movie, bringing in collaborators such as writer Jeremy Slater and editor Fred Raskin, and re‑worked the climactic battle sequence, including a change of music.

Separate reporting notes that Gunn and fellow co‑CEO Peter Safran have contracts that expire in 2026‑2027, while the studio continues to develop new projects, including a Mister Terrific television series, a DC Crime series centered on Jimmy Olsen, and other upcoming DCU titles. The troubled Supergirl rollout has placed increased scrutiny on Gunn’s leadership of the franchise.
