James Harden agrees to three-year, $97M extension with Cleveland Cavaliers

James Harden has agreed to a three-year, $97 million contract extension to remain with the Cleveland Cavaliers. The deal, which includes a player option for the 2028-29 season and a trade kicker, follows Harden's decision to decline a $42.3 million player option for the upcoming season.

With this agreement, Harden becomes only the fourth player in NBA history to surpass $500 million in career earnings, joining LeBron James, Kevin Durant, and Stephen Curry. At 36 years old, he also becomes the second player to sign a contract with over $90 million in guaranteed salary at age 37 or older.

The extension allows the Cavaliers to solidify a starting lineup that includes Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, Jarrett Allen, and recent acquisition Peyton Watson. While the deal secures Harden's long-term presence, some analysts have raised concerns regarding the financial implications of the contract as Harden enters his late 30s.
