James Harden Nears New Contract Extension with Cleveland Cavaliers

James Harden, the 11‑time NBA All‑Star, remains a free agent after opting out of his previous deal but is in active talks to re‑sign with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Sources say the club and Harden’s representatives are discussing a two‑ to three‑year extension that would keep the veteran guard in Cleveland while preserving the team’s salary‑cap flexibility for additional moves.

The Cavaliers, who acquired Harden at the trade deadline, are also evaluating wing prospects such as Jonathan Kuminga and Peyton Watson to complement their core of Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley and Jarrett Allen. The pending contract talks are viewed as the final piece before Cleveland can finalize any further roster additions. In his 20 games with the Cavs, Harden averaged roughly 20.5 points, 7.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds, and posted similar production in the playoffs.

If an agreement is reached, Harden will remain a key figure in Cleveland’s push for an Eastern Conference title, while the team retains the ability to pursue additional talent in the offseason.
