James Maddison set to captain Tottenham after ACL recovery
Midfielder James Maddison is preparing to return to action after an ACL injury that sidelined him for most of the 2025‑26 season. He has a contract with Tottenham Hotspur until 2028 and, according to club reports, is expected to be handed the captain’s armband for the upcoming campaign. Maddison praised new manager Roberto De Zerbi, saying the Italian coach’s attacking style fits his game perfectly. Under De Zerbi, Tottenham avoided relegation last season, finishing 17th, and have added several signings ahead of a pre‑season tour that included matches in Sydney and against Chelsea. The club’s first Premier League fixture of the new season is scheduled for 22 August.
