James Maddison suffers injury during Tottenham victory over Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder James Maddison was forced off the pitch early in the second half during a 2-0 victory against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The 29-year-old, who had recently returned from a long-term ACL injury, was replaced by Conor Gallagher in the 51st minute after appearing to suffer a groin injury.
Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi expressed hope that the setback is not serious, noting that Maddison is a “special player” for the team. The club has scheduled medical examinations to determine the exact nature and severity of the injury. This incident adds to a growing list of fitness concerns for the squad, which has also seen players like Destiny Udogie and Tosin Adarabioyo sidelined.
Despite the injury, the win marked a significant result for Spurs, representing their first league victory at Stamford Bridge in 36 years and their first clean sheet at the stadium in 40 years. The match also saw Chelsea's Cole Palmer receive a red card following a challenge on Gallagher.
