James McAvoy identifies ‘Split’ as his most reliable source of residuals
Actor James McAvoy has shared insights into the financial reality of film residuals, noting that most of his past projects yield negligible returns. During an appearance on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast with host Josh Horowitz, McAvoy explained that residual checks often amount to only a few hundred pounds or even as little as 25 cents, sometimes costing more to mail than their actual value.
McAvoy identified the 2017 psychological thriller ‘Split’, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, as his only consistent source of residual income. He noted that the film was produced on a modest budget of approximately $6 million and generated $40 million during its opening weekend, ensuring the project was in profit almost immediately.
In addition to discussing finances, McAvoy praised Shyamalan’s professionalism, citing the director’s preparedness and ability to maximize filming time on modest budgets for both ‘Split’ and its sequel, ‘Glass’.
