James McAvoy pitched Star Trek series about young Picard

Actor James McAvoy revealed during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he pitched a Star Trek limited series titled ‘Mutiny On the Stargazer’. The proposed project would have focused on a younger version of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, a role originally portrayed by Patrick Stewart.

McAvoy described the concept as a standalone season exploring the period when Picard assumed command of the USS Stargazer. The narrative was intended to delve into the events of that mission and a career-defining secret held by the character. While McAvoy noted that Star Trek executives were receptive to the idea, the project failed to move forward due to logistical complications.

This pitch follows a pattern in McAvoy’s career, as he previously portrayed a younger version of Professor Charles Xavier in the X-Men franchise, succeeding Stewart in that role.
