James McAvoy premieres supernatural drama Faith at TIFF

At the Toronto International Film Festival, actor James McAvoy premiered his new supernatural drama, Faith. Written and directed by Paul Andrew Williams, the film stars McAvoy alongside Erin Doherty. The story follows a single mother whose life intersects with an enigmatic man during a period of intense tragedy.

McAvoy described the film as a “very emotional” and “real ride” that examines the necessity of faith when facing immense challenges. He noted that his character provides an option for the protagonist to either carry on or stop in the wake of trauma. Director Paul Andrew Williams praised McAvoy’s performance, describing his ability to play diverse and grounded roles as “chameleon-like.”

Discussing his career in the genre, McAvoy mentioned that while his children are shielded from his more frightening roles, his wife, Lisa Liberati, enjoys his “unsettling” and dark performances.
