James McAvoy reveals pitch for Star Trek prequel series

Actor James McAvoy has revealed that he pitched a Star Trek prequel miniseries titled ‘Mutiny on the Stargazer’ which was seriously considered for development.

During an appearance on the ‘Happy Sad Confused’ podcast, McAvoy explained that the project would have focused on the early career of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, specifically his time commanding the USS Stargazer. The series was intended to be a standalone season that would explore a mystery regarding how Picard attained command following a crisis on the ship.

McAvoy noted that the project came close to fruition, stating, ‘We nearly did it.’ The actor joked about his desire to play young versions of Patrick Stewart, noting the coincidence that he previously played a young version of Stewart’s character, Professor Charles Xavier, in the X-Men film franchise.
