James Miller appointed chair of New Zealand's Financial Markets Authority

Finance Minister Nicola Willis and Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Cameron Brewer announced that James Miller will serve as chair of the Financial Markets Authority (FMA) for a five‑year term starting 6 August. Miller, a former NZX chair and inaugural FMA director, is praised for his expertise in capital markets, corporate governance and financial regulation.

The appointment is part of the New Zealand government's programme of capital‑markets reform aimed at deepening markets, reducing the cost of raising capital and improving outcomes for KiwiSaver savers. The FMA will also take on consumer credit regulation from the Commerce Commission, giving it a broader role in protecting consumers while supporting market growth.
