James Mworia appointed founding CEO of National Infrastructure Fund
James Mworia has been appointed as the founding Chief Executive Officer of the National Infrastructure Fund (NIF), effective September 7, 2026. The appointment follows a competitive recruitment process to lead the newly established fund, which is designed as a Sh5 trillion investment vehicle for major infrastructure projects.
Established under the National Infrastructure Fund Act, 2026, the NIF aims to accelerate national infrastructure development by mobilizing private capital and non-traditional financing sources. This strategy is intended to reduce reliance on public debt for commercially viable projects. The fund will focus on several key sectors, including transport and logistics, energy, ICT, water, and agriculture.
Mworia, who currently serves as the Group CEO and Managing Director of Centum Investment Company Plc, brings over 25 years of experience in investment management and capital allocation. His mandate includes establishing the fund’s organizational systems and developing a pipeline of projects capable of attracting domestic and international investors. The NIF intends to support projects throughout their lifecycle, eventually transitioning them to capital markets to recycle capital for future infrastructure needs.
