Australian rugby veterans sign new deals for World Cup push

Several veteran Australian rugby players have signed new club contracts with the goal of competing in the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Prop James Slipper has signed a one-year extension with the ACT Brumbies. Slipper, who holds the record for the most Super Rugby appearances with 212, aims to potentially become the first Australian to participate in five World Cups.

Fly-half James O'Connor is returning to the Western Force on a one-year deal. After a career that included stints in England, France, and New Zealand, O'Connor described the move as a “full circle moment” and intends to serve as an attack coach for the club's Super AUS team while pursuing a spot in the Wallabies squad.

Additionally, veteran Bernard Foley has signed with the NSW Waratahs as part of a broader trend of experienced players positioning themselves for the upcoming home World Cup.
