James Talarico faces GOP attacks in Texas Senate race

Texas Democratic U.S. Senate nominee James Talarico is facing intense scrutiny from Republican opponents regarding his religious views and stances on transgender issues. The pro-Trump super PAC MAGA Inc. launched a $10 million advertising campaign targeting Talarico, labeling him “weird” and highlighting past comments where he described Jesus Christ as a “radical feminist,” stated “God is non-binary,” and referred to himself as a “Christian who hates Christianity.”

Critics have also attacked Talarico for what they describe as justifications for behavior based on scripture. Additionally, Talarico has faced questions regarding his consistency on transgender healthcare. While he recently stated in an interview that he would support a national ban on gender-affirming surgeries for minors, he recently held a fundraiser in New York City hosted by leaders from the Human Rights Campaign, an organization that advocates for access to such care for adolescents.
