James Talarico faces political allegations from former associates and opponents

Texas Democratic candidate James Talarico is facing criticism from both former acquaintances and political opponents regarding his consistency and past political actions.

Mike Garcia, a former president of the University of Texas College Republicans, alleged that Talarico abandoned a 2009 bipartisan initiative called Tuition Relief Now. Garcia claims Talarico withdrew support for the campaign to reduce college tuition shortly before a planned demonstration at the Texas Capitol, allegedly to protect his relationship with university administrators.

Additionally, Representative Brandon Gill has accused Talarico of running a “campaign of lies and deceit.” Gill alleged that Talarico has shifted his stances on several key issues—including transgender rights, immigration, and capitalism—in an attempt to appeal to a broader voter base ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
