Texas Southern University students march to vote for James Talarico

James Talarico Ken Paxton Texas Southern University Texas Senate race early voting

Students at Texas Southern University participated in a campus march to the polls on October 23 to support Democratic U.S. Senate candidate James Talarico. The event, which coincided with Texas’ early voting period, featured appearances by Houston rapper Monaleo and Harris County judge candidate Dr. Letitia Plummer.

Talarico, a Democratic state representative, is running on a platform that includes healthcare for all. He is challenging Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in the November 3 election. Recent polling indicates significant support for Talarico among Black voters, with a Fox News poll showing him leading Paxton by 65 percentage points in that demographic, while a New York Times/Siena survey reported a 91% to 7% preference.

In contrast, Ken Paxton’s campaign faces scrutiny regarding past legal controversies, including allegations of misconduct involving a political donor and a resolved securities fraud case.
