James Tavernier linked with Ligue 1 transfer to Paris FC or OGC Nice
James Tavernier, the 34‑year‑old former Rangers FC captain, is a free agent after his contract with the Scottish club ended on 30 June. The English right‑back, who amassed 144 goals and 148 assists in 565 matches for Rangers, has attracted interest from two Ligue 1 sides.
Paris FC and OGC Nice are reported to be negotiating for his signature. Paris FC, coached by fellow Englishman Liam Rosenior, view Tavernier as an experienced, low‑cost addition to a squad that has already spent €80 million this window. Nice, facing financial constraints, see him as a veteran presence to bolster their defence. Tavernier has expressed a desire to continue playing and is reportedly open to a move to France, despite his age and the physical demands of Ligue 1.
If the deal materialises, it would mark a rare top‑five‑league move for the former Rangers leader, who has spent the last 11 years in Scotland after earlier spells in the English youth systems of Leeds United and Newcastle United.
