Suspect in Jamey Carney Murder Arrested in Jordan

U.S. citizen Jamey Carney was found dead in her Killarney, Ireland home on 7 July. Irish Gardaí named a 28‑year‑old asylum‑seeker, Ahmad (Ahmed) Al‑Saqar, as a person of interest. After the killing, Al‑Saqar left Ireland, traveling from Dublin to Istanbul and then to his hometown in northern Jordan.

Jordanian police detained Al‑Saqar in his native Jordan following alerts from Irish authorities and international partners such as Interpol and Europol. Irish Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan said the Gardaí are “engaging” with Jordanian forces, despite the lack of an extradition treaty, and will pursue every line of inquiry to bring the suspect to justice. The Department of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. authorities are also being consulted because the victim was an American.

The arrest provides Irish investigators a chance to complete their inquiry before seeking a potential extradition or further legal action, though the process may be prolonged under Jordanian law.
