Jamey Johnson recalls friendship and golf rivalry with Toby Keith

Country music artist Jamey Johnson recently shared memories of his friendship with the late Toby Keith, specifically highlighting Keith’s competitive nature on the golf course. Johnson described Keith as a master of ‘trash talk’ who could mentally affect opponents with his comments and superior short game.

Keith passed away on February 5, 2024, at the age of 62 following a battle with stomach cancer. He had publicly shared his diagnosis in June 2022 after undergoing various treatments including chemotherapy and surgery. In July 2024, Johnson performed Keith’s hit ‘Beer for My Horses’ alongside Lainey Wilson during a tribute concert at Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena.
