Jamie Benn prioritizes Dallas Stars championship pursuit

Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn is adjusting his physical conditioning and financial commitments to pursue a Stanley Cup championship. To maintain pace with younger NHL players, Benn has modified his training routine and lost weight.

Benn has also made significant financial sacrifices to assist the team with salary cap management. He has played under one-year contracts for the past two seasons, earning $1 million in 2025-26 and $850,000 in the current season. Stars General Manager Jim Nill noted that Benn is willing to reduce his salary to provide the franchise with more flexibility to sign other players.

Stars coach Glen Gulutzan, who returned to the team on July 1, 2025, praised Benn’s leadership and competitive drive, describing him as a player focused solely on winning regardless of his ice time.
