Jamie Carragher faces bankruptcy petition over unpaid tax bill

Jamie Carragher, the former Liverpool defender and prominent football pundit, is facing a bankruptcy petition filed by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) at the High Court in London. The petition follows an unpaid tax bill estimated to be between £700,000 and £800,000.

HMRC stated that it views bankruptcy petitions as a “last resort” and typically offers supportive measures, such as installment plans, to help taxpayers resolve debts. Carragher, who is 48 and currently works for Sky Sports and CBS Sports, has a significant media presence, including the podcast ‘Stick To Football’.

A spokesperson for Carragher described the situation as a “private tax matter that should have been resolved sooner” and noted that appropriate steps are being taken to settle the debt. Representatives indicated that the matter is expected to be resolved imminently and should not proceed further.
