Jamie Carragher mocked on air following HMRC bankruptcy petition

During the return of CBS SportsChampions League coverage, pundit Jamie Carragher was subjected to jokes regarding a bankruptcy petition filed by HMRC. The petition, lodged at the High Court in London, relates to an unpaid tax bill reportedly valued between £700,000 and £800,000.

Presenter Kate Abdo opened the broadcast by making light of the situation, remarking that Carragher’s career stats were “more depleted than Jamie’s bank account.” Carragher, appearing alongside Micah Richards and Thierry Henry, responded with laughter and later joined in the humor by referencing the financial difficulties of Barcelona.

A spokesperson for the former Liverpool and England defender stated that the matter is expected to be “resolved imminently” and that the case will not be proceeding further.
