Jamie Carragher rejects FIFA proposal for a World Cup every two years

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher said he would not support FIFA’s plan to hold the World Cup every two years. He refused, calling the proposal “rubbish” and warning that the meeting was being used to give the reform a veneer of player endorsement.

Carragher also mocked FIFA’s later announcement concerning President Gianni Infantino and the “FIFA Forward Enterprise” project, which would have allowed private investors to buy stakes in the tournament. The plan sparked widespread fan opposition and a threatened UEFA boycott, leading FIFA to abandon the initiative.
