Jamie Foxx reveals request to cut scene from Django Unchained
Actor Jamie Foxx has revealed that he requested director Quentin Tarantino remove a significant scene from the 2012 film ‘Django Unchained’ to protect co-star Kerry Washington.
Speaking on the ‘Baby, This Is Keke Palmer’ podcast, Foxx explained that the original script included a scene in which both his character, Django, and Washington’s character, Broomhilda von Shaft, were raped. Foxx stated that he, Tarantino, and Washington discussed the matter and decided to cut the ‘outlandish’ scene to protect Washington’s image. Foxx noted that because ‘movies are forever,’ he wanted to avoid having such a scene potentially clipped out of context.
Additionally, Foxx requested that Washington’s character be given a larger role in the story, noting that she was not featured enough in the initial script. Foxx stated that Tarantino was accommodating and made changes to ensure Washington’s character served as a central through line for the narrative.
