Jamie Oliver shares unique Moussaka recipe
Chef Jamie Oliver has shared a reinterpreted recipe for Moussaka, a traditional Greek dish. His version deviates from the classic Béchamel sauce by using a mixture of mascarpone, Greek yogurt, egg, and Parmesan to create a creamy, golden topping.
The recipe features layers of eggplant and thinly sliced potatoes seasoned with cinnamon, oregano, and cayenne pepper. For a more traditional flavor, it is suggested to use lamb mince and add cloves or allspice. A vegetarian version can be made by substituting meat with lentils.
Moussaka has roots in Arabic cuisine, with its name derived from the Arabic word ‘musaqqa‘a’. The modern Greek version incorporating French influences was established in the 1920s by chef Nikolaos Tselementes.
