Jamie Oliver urges UK ban on chewing gum to clean streets

Celebrity chef Jamie Oliver said used chewing gum is turning British streets into "flickering carpets" and called for stricter action by local authorities. He urged London mayor Sadiq Khan and other city officials to consider a ban or tougher measures to stop gum litter, citing Singapore’s existing prohibition as a model.

Oliver noted that while spitting gum is already an offence in the United Kingdom, fines of £100‑£150 are imposed for littering. He offered to advise the city on practical solutions, but highlighted that no nationwide ban currently exists.
