Jamie Overton open to England Test cricket return

England all-rounder Jamie Overton has indicated he would consider returning to Test cricket if approached by the new leadership team, consisting of captain Joe Root and head coach Stephen Fleming.

Overton stepped away from first-class cricket at the end of last summer following his second Test appearance against India in July 2025. He subsequently ruled himself out of the Ashes series in Australia. During his hiatus, he has focused on white-ball cricket, where he has become a prominent performer.

Overton noted that his break was intended to be indefinite rather than permanent. He expressed confidence in his physical condition and mentioned that his experience working with Fleming and bowling coach Eric Simons in the Indian Premier League has shaped his view of the new coaching direction. He described Fleming as a calm and clear leader, drawing comparisons to former coach Brendon McCullum.
