Jamie Raskin dismisses Hasan Piker's rhetoric as an irrelevant distraction

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) has dismissed controversial remarks made by political commentator Hasan Piker as an “irrelevant distraction” regarding the upcoming midterm elections. During an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Raskin addressed scrutiny following Piker’s statement that he would “vote for Hamas over Israel every single time.”

Raskin clarified that while “nobody supports Hamas, a terrorist organization,” the party should remain focused on opposing Donald Trump and his policies rather than internal debates over Piker’s rhetoric. The controversy has caused friction within the Democratic Party, specifically concerning Michigan Senate nominee Abdul el Sayed. Some Democrats, including Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-MI), have distanced themselves from el Sayed due to his associations with Piker.

In response to the growing influence of progressive figures, Natalie Baldassarre, national press secretary for the RNC, warned that the Democratic Party is being driven toward a political liability by socialists whose beliefs could impact the November elections.
