Jammu and Kashmir achieves 55% of rooftop solar target

Jammu and Kashmir has completed 46,133 residential rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, reaching 55.24% of its target of 83,500 installations set for March 31, 2027. This progress rate exceeds the national average of 50.80%.

During a review meeting, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo identified several obstacles to the program, including bank financing issues, uneven vendor distribution, metering, and delays in Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). Notably, in Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) areas, approximately 75% of installations rely on bank financing. Out of 61,566 loan applications submitted, 17,416 have been rejected.

To address these bottlenecks, the Chief Secretary directed power distribution companies to investigate rejected loan applications with banks to resolve avoidable denials. He also ordered the proportionate distribution of vendors across districts to ensure service availability and requested district-wise assessments from Deputy Commissioners to expedite the solarization process.
