Jammu and Kashmir approves ₹751 cr disaster recovery projects and expands MLA medical aid scheme

The Jammu and Kashmir government approved disaster recovery projects worth ₹751.46 crore for the restoration and reconstruction of critical public infrastructure across the Union Territory. The funding, allocated under the Post‑Disaster Needs Assessment mechanism, will support 1,033 works covering roads, bridges, power, schools, health, social welfare and agriculture, and includes a separate ₹33.19 crore package for the Ramban district.

The state also amended Constituency Development Fund guidelines, allowing each MLA to allocate up to ₹20 lakh annually for medical assistance to poor patients with life‑threatening illnesses. Caps are set at ₹2.75 lakh for cancer treatment, ₹5 lakh for organ transplants and ₹1 lakh for chronic kidney disease, with benefits limited to Below‑Poverty‑Line families and subject to prior use of existing government health schemes. Payments are to be made directly to empanelled hospitals to ensure transparency and accountability.
