Jammu and Kashmir banks closed for Maharaja Hari Singh birth anniversary

Banks in the Jammu and Srinagar regions of Jammu and Kashmir are closed today, September 23, in observance of the birth anniversary of Maharaja Hari Singh. The last Dogra ruler of the princely state, who signed the Instrument of Accession in 1947, is being honored for his social reforms and contributions to education.

The holiday affects all public and private institutions within the regional jurisdiction, including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Jammu and Kashmir Bank. While physical branches, check clearances, and cash deposits are suspended, digital services such as UPI, mobile banking, NEFT, IMPS, and ATM services remain operational 24/7.

Looking ahead to October, various bank holidays are scheduled across different Indian states due to festivals such as Gandhi Jayanti, Durga Puja, and Dussehra. While some holidays are nationwide, others are specific to states like West Bengal, Odisha, and Karnataka. Digital banking remains available during these scheduled closures.
