Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah unveils major education reforms

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced a series of education initiatives at the Education Conclave 2026 in Srinagar. The government revived appointments to school lecturer posts, handing out letters to 117 newly selected lecturers – the first such appointments in years. A full tuition‑fee waiver was announced for school and college students from Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families.

The chief minister also inaugurated 2,109 education‑sector projects worth more than ₹115 crore, including a studio for virtual classes and a high‑tech auditorium for the Government College of Engineering Technology Jammu. He recognised 67 meritorious students and honored nationally‑awarded teachers, praising student innovations in patents and start‑ups. The reforms were presented as part of a broader push to improve infrastructure, institutional development, and service conditions for teachers and academics in Jammu and Kashmir.
