Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister threatens Jantar Mantar protest over delayed statehood

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary warned that the ruling National Conference will stage a protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi if the central government does not fulfill its promise to restore statehood to the Union Territory. He said the promise, made after the assembly elections, remains unfulfilled after nearly two years, harming development, employment and basic services such as water and electricity.

The protest is part of a roadmap prepared by party president Farooq Abdullah and seeks support from opposition parties and the BJP. Choudhary also flagged off three specialised essential‑services trucks for the districts of Doda, Udhampur and Jammu and inspected damage to the Gadadhar temple in Mubarak Mandi.
