Around 300 hectares of traditional apple and walnut orchards in Jammu and Kashmir have been converted to high‑density plantations, part of a larger effort that has brought 909.13 hectares under such schemes over the past five years. The conversion is supported by the Mission for Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) and related programmes, with subsidies ranging from 40% to 50% of project costs provided by the National Horticulture Board and Union‑government schemes.

The state also reports 41 approved projects under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), of which 30 are operational. These projects create about 2 lakh tonnes per annum of food‑processing and preservation capacity and have benefited 53,203 farmers. Ladakh, by contrast, has no PMKSY projects approved or operational.

Both initiatives aim to boost agricultural productivity, reduce post‑harvest losses, and improve farm incomes in the region.
