Jammu and Kashmir faces 10,446 vacancies in education sector
The education sector in Jammu and Kashmir is facing a significant staffing shortage, with 10,446 posts currently vacant across the School Education and Higher Education departments. The School Education Department accounts for the majority of these gaps, with 9,407 vacancies. Within the Higher Education Department, 1,039 positions remain unfilled, including various Gazetted, Non-Gazetted, and Multi-Tasking Staff roles.
In response to these shortages, the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has announced a recruitment drive for 2,863 positions. This notification covers Class-IV (Multitasking Staff) and Sanitation Worker roles across UT, Divisional, and District cadres. Eligible candidates with a Jammu and Kashmir domicile can apply online starting October 5, 2026, with the application window closing on November 3, 2026.
Government officials stated that efforts are underway to streamline recruitment procedures and coordinate with agencies to fill vacancies in a time-bound manner. Recruiting agencies have already issued examination calendars for 2026 to address the personnel needs of schools and colleges.
