Jammu and Kashmir faces heavy rain and flood warnings

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecasted widespread rain and thundershowers for Jammu and Kashmir, with rainfall activity expected to peak around August 11. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated in parts of the Jammu division, while certain areas in Kashmir may experience brief spells of intense showers.

Authorities have issued warnings regarding the potential for flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and waterlogging in low-lying and vulnerable areas due to torrential rain. Following the peak on August 11, the region is expected to see light rain and thundershowers from August 12 to 16, with another spell of light to moderate rain forecast between August 17 and 19.

Recent temperature readings showed Srinagar at a maximum of 33.2 degrees Celsius and Jammu at 34.6 degrees Celsius. Residents and officials are advised to remain vigilant and monitor high-risk locations during periods of intense precipitation.
