Jammu and Kashmir government addresses teacher exemptions and job vacancies

The Jammu and Kashmir government is addressing several administrative and employment issues within the Union Territory. In the Legislative Assembly, a resolution was moved to exempt government teachers appointed before January 1, 2019, from the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), following a Supreme Court ruling.

Regarding public sector employment, the government reported 38,872 vacant posts across various departments, including over 24,000 non-gazetted positions. A committee is currently reviewing a policy for the regularisation of casual, seasonal, and contractual workers to create a uniform legal and financial framework.

In the healthcare sector, 335 medical officers have been appointed following the referral of 480 posts to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission. Efforts are also underway to address staff shortages in remote areas like Kupwara. Additionally, B. Sc Forestry students have requested government intervention to clarify recruitment rules and ensure their specialized training is recognized for relevant government roles.
