Jammu and Kashmir government releases relief for flood and fire victims
The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced various relief measures for victims of recent natural disasters in the regions of Budgam and Langate.
In Budgam, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary informed the Legislative Assembly that Rs 3 crore has been released under the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to assist areas affected by flash floods. The relief includes ex-gratia compensation for a flood-related death and assessments for damage to a shopping complex, roads, bridges, and power transmission lines. Additionally, the government is addressing damage to crops and horticulture, covering several hectares of paddy, vegetables, and maize.
In Langate, Forest, Ecology and Environment Minister Javed Ahmed Rana stated that timber assistance is being provided to eligible families affected by fires. While certain villages do not qualify for timber under specific forest concession rules, the Jammu and Kashmir Forest Development Corporation is processing applications for eligible residents. The Deputy Commissioner of Kupwara has also distributed blankets, kitchen sets, and tarpaulins, alongside cash assistance of Rs 10,000 per affected family.
