Jammu and Kashmir Health Department Fires Doctor After Extended Unauthorized Leave

The Jammu and Kashmir government terminated Dr. Hooda Rashid, a Medical Officer appointed on an Academic Arrangement Basis at Government Medical College (GMC) Srinagar. The Health and Medical Education Department issued an order stating that Dr. Rashid had been absent without authorization since May 1, 2025, despite a show‑cause notice and repeated opportunities to resume duties. She cited her father's ill health but did not return to work or provide a satisfactory explanation, leading the department to disengage her with retrospective effect.

The order noted that her prolonged absence adversely affected patient‑care services at Government Lalla Ded Hospital. The termination was carried out under provisions that allow dismissal for unauthorized absence or misconduct in academic‑arrangement appointments.
