Jammu and Kashmir hit by heavy rain and thunderstorms

Heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning have impacted several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, specifically affecting the Ramban and Udhampur districts. In response to the intense downpours, the Ramban district administration issued a safety advisory, urging residents—particularly those in upper reaches or near rivers and streams—to exercise caution and avoid unnecessary travel.

The widespread precipitation and overcast conditions have led to a significant drop in temperatures and high humidity levels across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions. Meteorological data shows Srinagar recorded 100 per cent rainfall with a temperature of 16.2 degrees Celsius, while Jammu City saw 98 per cent rainfall at 22.4 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg recorded the lowest temperature in the region at 10.6 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a five-day forecast suggesting that rainfall activity will gradually taper off, transitioning to scattered light showers in districts including Ramban, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar, and Anantnag. However, warnings remain for potential thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds reaching up to 60 km/h in isolated areas.
