Jammu and Kashmir launches overseas recruitment pilot

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has launched a pilot overseas recruitment drive aimed at providing skilled youth with regulated employment opportunities in foreign countries. The initial phase focuses on the food and beverage (F&B) and hospitality sectors in Saudi Arabia. This initiative is part of the broader Mission SKILL framework, which seeks to establish a structured mechanism for international employer engagement, candidate screening, and pre-departure assistance.

Future recruitment drives are expected to expand into healthcare, construction, and quick service restaurants (QSR) across the Middle East and other regions. To ensure safety and transparency, the government stated that recruitment will only be conducted through agencies authorized by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Separately, discussions regarding employment in the region have highlighted the financial scale of local recruitment processes. Data indicates that the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) and the Jammu and Kashmir Service Selection Board (JKSSB) collected over Rs 82 crore in examination and application fees over a two-year period. The government maintains that these fees are used to cover administrative, technical, and logistical costs associated with conducting examinations and processing applications, rather than serving as a source of profit.
