Jammu and Kashmir leaders push statehood protest, hail Zojila tunnel breakthrough
National Conference president Farooq Abdullah said his party will not seek support from other political parties for its planned Delhi protest demanding the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. He emphasized that participation will be voluntary and that the party will continue its legal and political fight for the region’s special status.
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah welcomed the breakthrough of the Zojila tunnel, describing it as a step toward all‑weather connectivity for the valley and Ladakh. He appealed to Union minister Nitin Gadkari to facilitate regular direct air service to Kargil, arguing that improved air and road links would benefit residents, tourism and trade.
