Jammu and Kashmir National Conference schedules Jantar Mantar protest for statehood restoration

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) finalized plans for a large-scale protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on July 20, aligning with the opening of Parliament’s Monsoon Session. The decision was endorsed at a meeting of the party’s Kashmir Provincial Committee in Srinagar, chaired by General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar and attended by senior leaders including President Dr Farooq Abdullah, MP Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, MP Shammi Oberoi, and ministers Sakina Itoo and Javed Ahmad Dar. Participants said the demonstration will highlight the constitutional right of the people of Jammu and Kashmir to have their statehood restored, citing Union Government assurances before Parliament and the Supreme Court.

The NC also scheduled commemorations for the death anniversary of Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah on July 11 and Martyrs’ Day on July 13. Organisers intend to invite members of the broader INDIA bloc to join the protest, emphasizing a peaceful, democratic campaign for statehood and constitutional guarantees.
